Meet our staff
First, you should meet Isaac Burtis.
Isaac Founded D.E.D. in 2023 after working on his family’s oyster farm for five years. He started as a commercial shellfish harvester, digging clams at low tide in Brunswick and Harpswell. With idle time during the high tides, he and his brother Max began farming oysters and sugar kelp, and later branched out into dive services as demand kept increasing. You can check out their website at bombazineoyster.com. His growth mindset and ambition are unmatched and he has created a standardized way to inspect and maintain moorings to keep your vessel safe.
In 2025 he traveled to Florida and completed the last phase of training to earn the PADI instructor rating. Isaac can teach any PADI recreational class if you want to start diving!

Meet Max
Max has hundreds of dives under his belt, just like his brother Isaac. He started diving to sink cages on the oyster farm before moving into commercial scallop diving. With a mechanical engineering degree and a lifetime spent on the water, you can trust Max when it comes to your boat, mooring, or any marine project.
When he isn't underwater, Max is usually designing, building, or improving something. Whether it's fabricating equipment, solving mechanical problems, or finding a better way to get the job done, he brings an engineer's mindset to every project. His combination of technical knowledge and real-world experience helps ensure every job is done safely, efficiently, and built to last.
Meet Dave
Dave has spent years making a living on the water—from commercial salmon fishing in the rough seas of Alaska to lobstering the coast of Maine. He also works at Bombazine Oyster Company and has hands-on experience inspecting, maintaining, and servicing moorings, making him right at home on just about any waterfront job.
Local legend has it Dave can spot a dragging mooring from half a mile away and straighten a bent anchor with nothing more than the raise of an eyebrow. While we can't verify those claims, we can confirm that he brings years of real-world maritime experience, a strong work ethic, and a healthy appreciation for Maine humor on the job.
Meet Erich
Erich started diving in 2017 during a Discover Scuba experience in the Dominican Republic and immediately wished he had started years earlier. He earned his certification in Antigua in 2018 and has continued diving during annual spring trips with his family. In 2026, his wife surprised him with a seal-diving trip to Duck Island off Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which inspired him to gear up for cold-water diving.
Erich has also worked as a mechanic for 23 years, including time with Caterpillar and several automotive shops. His extensive experience with electrical systems, hydraulics, gas and diesel engines, and mechanical repair makes him a valuable addition both above and below the water. In 2026, he joined Downeast Dive Services, combining his interest in diving with his mechanical expertise and putting both to work on the Maine coast.
